Sheltered housing

The accommodation in each sheltered housing scheme (or warden assisted housing) usually consists of studio flats or one-bedroom flats, although three of the schemes also have a few bungalows. Each studio flat, flat or bungalow has its own kitchen and sitting room or bedsitting room, and has shared use of the communal lounge, bathroom and laundry facilities. The lounge is often used for social events that you can choose whether or not to take part in.

Our sheltered housing schemes are in the following locations:

Tendring District Council employs Scheme Managers to manage these schemes and they are there to support your well being and safety.

After you have moved into sheltered housing, the Scheme Manager will complete a support plan for you that includes the names, addresses and telephone numbers of your next of kin, your doctor and any other professional agencies that care for you and other relevant information. This information helps to make sure that you are provided with the most appropriate assistance to help you stay independent and look after your health.

When the Scheme Manager is off duty, your alarm will be switched over to the Tendring Careline Control Centre. This Control Centre is fully staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that, if there is an emergency when the Scheme Manager is off duty, you will be able to talk directly to the operator at the Control Centre who will make sure the appropriate help is called.
