The role of the Scheme Managers

Tendring District Council employs a Scheme Manager to manage each sheltered housing scheme. When you first move into your home, the Scheme Manager will help you to settle in and, after that, they will contact you every day to support your well being and safety. However, at all times, the Scheme Manager will respect your privacy and will not enter your home unless invited or required to do so in an emergency.

The scheme manager does not provide care for residents or carry out tasks such as cleaning, shopping or helping with medication. However, they are there to help in the event of a problem and give advice on a range of issues.

After you have moved into sheltered housing, the Scheme Manager will complete a support plan for you that includes the names, addresses and telephone numbers of your next of kin, your doctor and any other professional agencies that care for you and other relevant information. This information helps to make sure that you are provided with the most apporpriate assistance to help you stay independent and look after your health. This support plan will then be reviewed on a regular basis.

Scheme Managers normally live in the sheltered housing schemes, but they only work a set number of hours and days each week. Unless there is an emergency, please respect their privacy when they are not working. When the Scheme Manager is off duty, your alarm will be switched over to the Tendring Careline Control Centre. This Control Centre is fully staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that, if there is an emergency when the Scheme Manager is off duty, you will be able to talk directly to the operator at the Control Centre who will make sure the appropriate help is called.
