Enforcement

We want to achieve continuous improvement in the service we offer to our tenants by using existing and new measures and policies that allow for effective enforcement action against those responsible for anti social behaviour.

To achieve this, we will:

  • Investigate and report on the cost and feasibility of implementing Introductory Tenancy and/or Tenancy Demotion policies;

  • Implement a policy of removing the right to buy and/ or mutual exchange from tenants who have behaved in an anti social manner;

  • Promote and fund a range of legal remedies and enforcement action against anti social tenants;

  • Instigate a policy for using professional witnesses in appropriate cases;

  • Take more effective action against tenants who threaten, abuse or are violent towards Council Officers or Elected Members;

  • Agree and instigate a good practice protocol with Environmental Services for using powers available within the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005;

  • Take more effective action to deal with domestic violence and to support victims;

  • Investigate the feasibility of funding neighbourhood wardens from within the Housing Revenue Account.
