Description
The Government requires all local housing
authorities to achieve its Decent Homes Standard by 2010 and to
consult with tenants, leaseholders and other stakeholders about how
best to achieve this and other wishes for service improvements. All
councils have to have looked at the options for meeting this
standard, as well as meeting tenants and leaseholders priorities
for improvements that exceed this standard.
There were four options that had to be
considered: - 1. The Private Finance Initiative 2. Staying with the
Council 3. Arms Length Management Organisation Initiative 4.
Transfer to a Housing Association
Following this appraisal process, the Housing
Options Steering Group set up to progress this work recommended
that the retention of the housing stock be agreed as the preferred
option for the future management and maintenance of Council housing
in Tendring, which was accepted by the Government.
