Description
The Council insures its own Council properties against certain
risks. In the case of damage to a property the Council would
normally claim on its insurance for the cost of repairing the
property.
However, many Council Tenants also mistakenly believe that their
furniture, personal belongings and decorations are automatically
insured against theft or damage from fire and burst pipes.
Unfortunately this is not the case.
You are responsible for insuring your belongings and, in
general, these will only be covered by our insurance, if we are
legally responsible for the damage. In any other circumstances, you
would have to meet the cost of replacing your furniture, electrical
equipment and other possessions.
We strongly advise all Council Tenants to take out household
contents insurance in some form.
