What type of tenancy will the council give me if I am
housed by them? |
|
The Council uses introductory, secure and
non secure tenancies.
An introductory tenancy is a one
year trial, it gives a number of the same rights as a secure tenant
but you can be evicted more easily and as
long as you don't break your tenancy agreement during this one year
trial period, you will automatically become a secure
tenant.
As a secure tenant, we can only
end your tenancy if we have a court order to repossess your home.
The court will only issue an order like this if you have broken one
of the conditions of your tenancy agreement. Secure tenants also
have a number of legal rights, such as the right to buy.
We also allocate council accommodation
to homeless people on a non secure tenancy until such time as they
qualify for a introductory tenancy. Non secure and introductory
tenants have less rights than secure tenants.
