Have your say on the future of waste and recycling in Essex

Essex County Council are consulting on the draft Waste Strategy for Essex. The strategy sets out how they plan to increase recycling in essex and how they plan to change the way rubbish that can't be recycled is dealt with. The aim is to make the most of the planet's valuable resources, help tackle climate change and save taxpayer's money.

To find out more log on to www.essexcc.gov.uk , telephone 0845 6037625 or visit one of their roadshows which are coming to Clacton High Street on 30 April and 3 May 2008 from 10am to 3pm.

RefuseHousehold Waste Collection

Please remember you are responsible for your refuse and recycling up to the time it is collected. Please do not put bags out earlier than is necessary as they can cause an obstruction or even be torn open by animals.

If you would like to check which day your refuse and recycling collection is due please see the "useful information" links above.

Black rubbish sacks are delivered once a year, between January and March, and each domestic property receives 52 sacks, one for each week of the year. Unfortunately we cannot supply additional sacks if you run out before the next delivery or if you move property, however you can buy black bags at any of the Council's cash offices or most supermarkets.

Garden Waste

If you have garden waste you want to get rid of and cannot get it to your nearest household recycling site, you can purchase packs of special garden waste bags from our contractors, Veolia Environmental Services. These can be filled with green garden waste and placed out for collection with your household waste on your normal refuse collection day. If you would like to purchase some garden waste bags please call Veolia direct on 01255 431620.

Unfortunately the garden waste bags go straight to landfill and a so much better way to get rid of your green waste and also benefit your garden is to start composting, our Home Composting page is full of information and advice including where you can buy subsidised compost bins.

RECYCLE WEEKLY - WE DO IN TENDRING

Household Recycling Collection Service

We now collect recycling weekly from all domestic properties in the district. All properties have been supplied with a green plastic box to store recyclables until collection. If you require extra boxes these can be collected from various locations across the district, to find out where your nearest collection point is please see the "useful information" links at the top of this page.

Your recycling is collected on the same day as your rubbish but a separate vehicle is used. Please leave your recycling and refuse just inside your front boundary - but make two separate piles to prevent confusion when the collections take place.

For further information on the service please see our Recycling Collection Service page.

For information on how to REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE, including links to other related sites please visit our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle page.

Household Recycling Centres

Essex County Council provides 5 household recycling centres in the Tendring district. For information on their location and opening times please see our " Household Recycling Centre page".

Some advice will vary from authority to authority so, if you do not live in the Tendring district, it is advisable to contact your own local authority. To find out who your local authority is, you can check your Council Tax bill or enter your postcode on the DirectGov - the Government information website http://www.direct.gov.uk/
