The Council does not provide a clinical
waste collection and disposal service, but does arrange for safe
collection and disposal of syringes and sharps found on public
land.
If you have a medical condition, which generates
waste that must be incinerated under controlled conditions, you
should arrange for collection and disposal through your GP or
nursing staff.
Non-infectious incontinence items are not classed
as "Clinical waste" and should be disposed of by placing in the
normal household refuse collection service black bags.
Syringes and Sharps
Needles, syringes and other drug related items
are being increasingly discarded in the environment.
There are a number of hazards associated with
handling these items and we advise members of
the public not to pick them up unless it poses an immediate danger
to you or other residents. If you find a needle on public land then
you should contact us on 01255 686768 and we will
safely dispose of it.
Please note that any needles, or syringes etc.
found on educational premises (e.g. schools, nurseries, etc.)
during working hours should be reported immediately to the premises
manager or admin office directly, they should have a procedure in
place to arrange for safe collection and disposal. If they do not
have a procedure for disposal then the Council can give advice on
how to dispose of them safely.
For advice on how to dispose of needles, syringes
or sharps found on private land please contact the Waste Management
