Stereo equipment and televisions seized from a property in the
Tendring area have been destroyed by Michael Talbot the Portfolio
Holder for the Environment in the presence of representatives from
the press and television.
The use of the equipment caused a statutory noise nuisance to
others living in the area and Tendring District Council
successfully prosecuted a case at Colchester Magistrates Court.
The owner of the items was fined £100 and ordered to pay £325
costs. A relative who lived at the same address was fined £130 and
ordered to pay £325 costs.
Under the Noise Act 1996, Local Authorities can dispose of the
seized equipment six months after a 28-day reclaim period.
Following the expiry of this period the decision was taken to
destroy the stereo equipment and televisions and put across a
strong message that the Council takes statutory noise nuisance
complaints very seriously.
