No, only local authorities who have declared Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) have been granted the powers to conduct roadside emissions testing for vehicles entering or leaving the AQMA. With the aide of the Police, these Local Authorities will carry out formal testing, with vehicles failing the exhaust emissions test given a fixed penalty notice of £60. Tendring does not currently have any AQMAs.
