A PRESTIGOUS AWARD TO PROMOTE EXCELLENCE IN
DESIGN
The objective for the Tendring District Design Award
Scheme is to recognise notable architecture and
environmental design that makes an exceptional contribution to our
built environment. The Award does not simply reward good design,
but also takes into account the way in which schemes relate to
their settings and to the people that they serve. The aim is to
encourage the very best in our built environment.
Following a great deal of publicity about the Scheme,
nominations for Tendring District Council's new Design Award closed
on February 18.
The judges got together on March 22 and their deliberations
included site visits to each of the short-listed nominations.
The best new build was announced as Bishop's Park College, Clacton,
and the title of best conservation and refurbishment project was
awarded to Maltings Park in Mistley.

A spokesman for Tendring District Council, which launched the
awards, said: "People really seem to have been excited by this and
put forward those buildings which they believe to be worthy
winners.
"In the longer term we are very hopeful that by making an award of
this kind it will stimulate better building projects right across
Tendring.
"It is all about raising the bar even higher and setting new
standards for developers for the future."
The eight short-listed buildings were: Vista Cottage,
Kirby-le-Soken; Clifton Court, Walton; Trinity House Offices,
Harwich; Martello Tower, Jaywick; Bishops Park College, Clacton;
103 Main Road, Dovercourt; and The Exchange in Manningtree and
Maltings Park, in Mistley.
The successful designs will be eligible to go forward to represent
the district in the regional planning achievement award scheme
