What is a Local
Plan?
One of the main
duties of the District Council is to plan for the use of land. This
includes producing a Local Plan which sets the guidelines for
deciding planning applications. Land for development is in short
supply and under increasing pressure for many types of use. The aim
of the Local Plan is to guide development so that it meets the
District's needs for new homes, jobs, shops and leisure facilities
but does not spoil our towns, villages, countryside and
coast.
Tendring District
has a District Local Plan which, following a
Public Inquiry, was adopted by the Council on 11 December 2007
covering the period up to 2011.
The Inspector's final binding report is available from this
link.
What does the
Plan consist of?
The Plan consists
of a Written Statement containing planning policies and proposals
maps indicating where those policies apply.
How does the
Local Plan affect Planning Applications?
Most development
and changes of use of land require planning permission from the
District Council. The Local Plan is the main starting point in
deciding planning applications and provides the guidance for
rational and consistent decisions across the District.
