Weather may hit household waste collections in
Tendring
Residents across Tendring are being warned that their household
waste collections may be disrupted - if the current bad weather
persists.
Strong winds could result in the closure of the landfill site
used by Tendring District Council's (TDC) contractors.
Currently Essex County Council's Bellhouse site, which is used
by the contractors, is still open for tipping but there are no
guarantees that it will remain so over the next couple of days.
Michael Talbot, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at TDC,
asked residents to bear with the situation if the collections are
affected.
"At this stage we still hope that it will be business as usual
but there is a possibility - should the weather worsen - that there
could be some disruption," he said.
"Veolia, our contractors, will do their very best to maintain a
normal service but there may come a point where they have nowhere
to deliver the waste collected!
"We sincerely hope that will not be the case but we really are
in the hands of the weather."
Should collections be affected there would be a knock-on effect
on following days as the contractors attempt to catch up.
TDC collects household waste from more than 65,000 homes across
the Tendring district on a weekly
basis. |
