Tendring's Top Sporting Personalities To Be Crowned

The waiting is almost over for Tendring's sporting stars with the top personalities of 2007 due to be named in just a matter of days.

Leading talent from a host of sports across all ages will find out their fate at a special awards ceremony to be staged at Clacton Town Hall on February 7.

The popular awards are run by Tendring District Council (TDC) and the Activetendring Partnership.

They have been sponsored by the Clacton, Frinton and Walton Gazette and the Harwich and Manningtree Standard for the second year running.

The aim is to mark the outstanding achievements and successes of those men, women and youngsters who have made an impact in their chosen field during the past 12 months, as well as the commitment of the coaches and volunteers.

Pierre Oxley, Portfolio Holder for Leisure at TDC said it promises to be a night to remember for all those involved.

"We are blessed with tremendous sporting talent across our district and this is the time of the year when we can officially recognise that fact," he said.

"So many people are worthy of an award - and the standard of nominations has once again been extremely high and has given the judges a very difficult task.

"I look forward to handing out some of the prizes and meeting with those who have hit the sporting headlines over the past year."

Awards are up fro grabs in a whole host of categories, including individual and teams accolades for outstanding achievement, the development of sport for young people by a club or organisation and recognition of commitment and service to coaching.
