The results of the annual Blue Flag Awards for UK beaches were
announced today.
Martello Bay, Clacton has been awarded a Blue Flag this year
bringing the total number of Blues Flag in the district to three.
Tendring also has six Quality Coast Awards for eight beaches across
the District. This represents one of the highest numbers for
districts across the country
Brightlingsea Beach and Dovercourt Bay have now been joined by
Martello Bay, Clacton getting a coveted Blue Flag. Local beaches
awarded Quality Coast Awards are, Albion Beach Walton, The Naze,
Walton, Harwich Beach, West Beach, Clacton, Frinton Beach and
Martello Bay, Clacton.
Quality Coast Awards are nationally recognised beach awards for
beaches that are able to demonstrate that they are well managed and
have the necessary facilities and services for visitors but that do
not quite meet the exacting requirements of Blue Flag.
Kevin Harkin, the Council's Head of Leisure Services said local
people know that we are very lucky in Tendring to have so many
marvellous beaches and it is gratifying when this fact is
recognised nationally.
Mr Harkin went on to say "I am very pleased that Martello Bay
has regained Blue Flag status as there is evidence that beach
awards have a positive impact on visitor numbers. This will
hopefully give Clacton's tourist trade a real boost".
