Have you put forward your favourite building for the prestigious
Tendring Design Award yet?
If not, there is still time to do as the deadline for
nominations is May 29, 2009 - with judging to take place during
June.
The award scheme, which is organised by Tendring District
Council (TDC), was set up for the first time in 2007.
It is staged every other year and the crown for the second
winner is now up for grabs.
The whole aim is to encourage excellence in the built
environment across the entire District and stimulate better
development in the future.
The award is open to all those buildings which have been
completed since April 1, 2006 and it can be a commercial property,
a residential building, or any other which is worthy of the
accolade.
Graham Thomas, TDC's Executive Manager - Planning, said the
first Design Award was a great success and he hoped it will go from
strength to strength.
"This is all about recognising good quality development -
something that offers more than the acceptable norm," he said.
It is open to residents, architects and developers along with
Town and Parish Councils to put forward their nominations - either
from the areas where they live or neighbouring parts of the
Tendring District.
Those nominated have to be within the District boundary - and
must have been approved by the Local Planning Authority.
The first joint winners in 2007 were Bishops Park College and
the Maltings Development at Manningtree. The other highly commended
entry was the Martello Tower conversion in Jaywick.
A strong list of judges has been lined-up to choose the winner
which will be announced in June.
Nomination forms are available on our Design Award Page, or from
Clacton Town Hall, Weeley Council Offices, or from collection at
Waddesdon Road, Harwich.
