A special roadshow aimed at providing advice to young
people on a range of issues rolls into Tendring next
week.
The 2SMART event will be staged at Clacton's Princes Theatre and
around 1,400 students from Year Seven from schools around the
District will get the chance to go along.
The roadshow is an Essex Police Project and tackles subjects
such as knives bullying, alcohol and drugs via music, dance, sports
and drama - with an emphasis on fun and learning.
It is being supported by Tendring District Council (TDC) by
providing the venue at Clacton Town Hall on Thursday March 26,
2009.
Pierre Oxley, Portfolio Holder for Leisure at TDC, said the
Council was proud to be hosting the event at the Princes
Theatre.
"We recently joined forces with Essex Police, Colbayns High
School, Bishops Park College and Dream 100 to host a play called
'Don't Give It' which explored the dangers of knife crime," he
said.
"That was also hosted by us at the Princes Theatre and was
well-received. The 2SMART roadshow will follow on naturally from
that event - only to a much larger audience - and we are delighted
to be backing it."
It will involve youngsters from Shorefields School, Clacton
County High, Colbayns High, Tendring Technology College, Bishops
Park College, The Harwich School, and Colne Community School
attending next week.
The 2SMART roadshow is sponsored by The University of Essex,
Network Rail, and Mid Essex Primary Care Trust.
Performers include dancers from the Karizma Dance Company and
music from Taner, an R&/Hip-Hop artist. Streetball Extreme will
show off their basketball skills. The host is Dom from Essex FM and
The Bald MC, Nav Oojageer and the London Bus Theatre Company will
be joining the fun.
