New Support For Businesses In Tendring

I'm here to help and support you!

That's the message to local businesses from Tendring District Council's (TDC) new Enterprise Liaison Officer.

Michelle Barr is available to companies to give advice, access grant aid for manufacturing firms, bring in experts where they are needed and also to act as a link between companies and other Council services to assist with issues such as planning or business rates.

While she is not there to offer start-up guidance, Michelle is able to signpost people in the right direction and will be a vital starting point for further information.

"It is a new position and has been set up to meet an identified need," she said.

"The Council has been listening very carefully to what businesses in Tendring have said they are looking for. They want specific support for local firms and I am here to provide that."

Michelle will be mainly focussing on commercial and industrial business, both large and small, and will also be dealing with chambers of trade to ensure their members are aware of what support options are available to them.

She also aims to develop the Tendring Business Club which currently has about 40 members on the books and will work alongside the Local Strategic Partnership Economic Theme Group.

"There are opportunities for firms to benefit from involvement with Business Link East, enterprise agencies and other support agencies," Michelle added. "I can assist them to do that."

Les Double, TDC's Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, said he was delighted the Council now has an Enterprise Liaison Officer and had pressed for the new post to be created.

"Michelle will fulfil a vital role and will act as a crucial link between the business community and the Council," he said.

Michelle previously worked for both Maldon District Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council in similar positions.

She can be contacted at TDC's Weeley offices on 01255 686376.
