Three children's play areas across Tendring are to get a
£150,000 facelift as part of a major scheme to upgrade facilities
for youngsters.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is pumping up to £50,000 into
each of the sites at Clacton, Dovercourt and Walton - and it is
just the start of things to come.
Work is due to begin in the next few weeks and the improvements
will include new equipment, surfacing and other features.
TDC went out to tender for the work and has now chosen a
contractor to carry out the project.
It will mean a facelift for the play areas at Cliff Park,
Dovercourt, at Jubilee Park in Walton, and at Eastcliff Playing
Field in Clacton.
Pierre Oxley, Portfolio Holder for Leisure at TDC, said he was
delighted that work would start soon.
"This really is just the beginning and part of a bigger plan to
upgrade all the Council's play areas across the district," he
said.
"We have to start somewhere and these are the first three sites
to be undertaken. We are investing a significant amount of money in
our play areas."
Cllr Oxley said the aim was to work with town and parish
councils across the district to improve play facilities for
children.
"We have even consulted with a local primary schools to find out
what youngsters are looking for in their play areas," he said.
"We want to make sure that we are creating facilities they want
- and not what we think they might
want." |
