Tendring District Council (TDC) is taking every
opportunity to get its recycling message over to
residents.
It is working with the organisers of two major events in the
district to promote the issue and take positive action.
Two massive 40 yard skips have been put on the site of a Scout
and Guide Jamboree at Kirby being attended by 10,000 youngsters
from across the world.
It is expected that the skips will be emptied several times
during the week with between 20 and 30 tonnes of waste
recycled.
The Council is also working alongside those running the
Brightlingsea Festival this weekend to raise awareness in the
town.
The festival at Western Promenade is taking place on Saturday
and Sunday.
TDC will be putting containers on the site at no cost and will
collect them again once the event is over and the waste will be
recycled.
Six Euro Bins (1,100 litres) and 10 Wheeled Bins (240 litres)
will be delivered on Friday in a special recycling area provided by
the organisers.
It is the first time that the Council has got involved in such a
formal way.
Bill Smith, TDC's Recycling Officer, said that both events
provided the Council with an ideal opportunity to get the message
across.
"Not only will it allow items to be recycled but it gives us a
chance to educate people," he said.
"There are 10,000 youngsters at Kirby and if we can reach a
proportion of them it will be worthwhile. I am delighted that we
are also going to have a presence at Brightlingsea this
weekend."
Lee Pugh, Theatre and Entertainments Manager at TDC, met with
organisers of the festival earlier this year.
"We are keen to offer whatever support we can to events such as
this," he said.
"My team and I are willing to discuss various issues and do what
we can within our resources to help them. The recycling initiative
is one positive action we could set
up." |
