Tendring District Council's (TDC) Cabinet is taking to the
road again.
Later this month a meeting of the Cabinet will be staged in
Walton and the move follows similar successful initiatives in both
Harwich and Brightlingsea last year.
Council Leader David Lines said he felt it was vital for the
Cabinet to get out to the people - rather than expect them to
always travel in to Clacton Town Hall where most of the meetings
are normally held.
"It would be very easy for us to just get round the table in
Clacton every week but we need to visit other parts of the
district," he said.
"It may take a bit more organisation but we all feel that it is
important that we take our meetings out to our residents."
The Cabinet Meeting in Walton will be staged at the Columbine
Centre on January 30 starting at 12 noon.
Once the meeting is over there will be a chance for residents to
meet and chat with Members and Officers for an hour or so - and
refreshments will be laid on.
Cllr Lines said the initiative had been well-received and proved
very worthwhile in both Harwich and Brightlingsea.
"I hope that people in Frinton and Walton - and the surrounding
villages - will come along to the Columbine Centre at the end of
the month and then we will be looking to go Manningtree, possibly
in April," he added.
"It is not good enough just to say that all areas of the
district are important to the Cabinet - we need to show that is the
case by getting out into the community as much as possible."
Cllr Lines has also been regularly attending town and parish
council meetings across the district over the past six months.
"It gives me a chance to find out what are the important issues
for them - and also the opportunity for town and parish councillors
to quiz me about TDC," he said.
"I find the meetings both enjoyable and informative and see them
as a way of extending the links that already exist between
us." |
