Get into the Zone!

That's the message from leisure bosses at Tendring District Council (TDC) who have drawn-up a host of fun-packed activities for youngsters over the February break - whatever the weather.

And once again Under 16s who are Tendring residents have the chance to enjoy three free swims during half term.

Children have a choice of Creative Zone, Skills Zone, Aqua Zone, Xtreme Zone and Youth Zone to keep them occupied and brighten up everyone's holiday.

A host of sports, coaching , games, arts and crafts, soft play activities, and the chance to have fun in the pool have been organised at various centres around the Tendring district.

All sessions are fully supervised and cater for those aged from five right up to 16-years-old, depending on the venue.

The scheme operates from February 11 to February 18, 2008 at sites at Clacton, Dovercourt, Harwich, Manningtree, Brightlingsea and Walton.

Pierre Oxley, Portfolio Holder for Leisure at TDC, said the Council had been busy investing in facilities at its centres and that would continue.

"We are very proud of our leisure sites and the wide range of sports and activities we are able to offer," he said.

"This coming half term there is something for everyone to enjoy with an action packed programme throughout the district.

"Youngsters can learn new skills, express themselves through arts and crafts, meet new friends or just have fun in a safe environment."

In order to make sure of a place in the Zone you have to choose the activity and simply turn up at the relevant sports centre to register. Advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Prices vary according to the activity and children whose parents receive benefits can get a free Leisure Bonus Card which entitles them to a reduced rate.

Full details of the half term programme can be found in the half term activity brochure, which is also available from TDC's six indoor leisure sites as well as from Tourist Information Centres. The brochure includes an application form for bonus cards.

Those wanting to make the most of the three free swims for Under 16s should contact their local pool to register.
