A specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flag will be
flying high in Tendring later this month.
Tendring District Council will be raising the flag outside
Clacton Town Hall on Monday June 22 - and a number of organisations
including the Royal British Legion, the RAF Association, and
Merchant Navy have been invited to attend with their Standards.
The event is part of a nationwide effort for all to show their
appreciation for the contribution made by all who serve - or have
served - in the Armed Forces.
The Government previously announced that British Armed Forces
Day will be staged on Saturday June 27.
Tendring District Council Chairman Nick Turner will be raising
the flag at 10.30am on June 22 and it will be flown right through
until June 27.
The Rev David Titley will officiate at the ceremony outside the
Town Hall in Station Road.
Cllr Nick Turner said: "It will be an honour to raise the flag
on behalf of the Council and the people of Tendring to mark the
first British Armed Forces Day."
The Council will also be flying a British Armed Forces Flag at
its offices in Weeley but there will be no ceremony at that
site.
The Government is encouraging all communities across the UK to
be involved in the inaugural year and has asked Local Authorities
to join in.
