A £50,000 scheme to resurface part of Clacton's Lower
Promenade will get under way next week.
Two sections of the Western Promenade will get their first
makeover for 15 years.
Tendring District Council's (TDC) contractors Lafarge will begin
the maintenance and repair programme on Monday March 23, 2009 and
the work is expected to take a week to complete, depending on the
weather.
The areas to be tackled are a 120 metre stretch below Tower Road
and a 160 metre stretch from the Martello Inn to the boat launching
ramp.
The promenade will be closed to pedestrians at both locations
while the project is carried out and diversions will be put in
place.
Harry Shearing, TDC's Portfolio Holder for Technical and
Procurement Services, apologised for any inconvenience that may be
caused while the work takes place.
"This area of the promenade is worn out and it is around 15
years since it was last resurfaced in that particular area," he
said.
"It is a busy part of the promenade and we want to carry out the
scheme before the season gets underway."
The total cost of the initiative is £51,000.
