Children from Tendring have had the chance to enjoy and achieve
as part of an initiative to celebrate dance and sport.
For three days over half term they have been working hard in
intensive workshop sessions which will be followed up with a
performance on Saturday (May 30) at the Princes Theatre,
Clacton.
The Dans Athletic contemporary dance workshops have been
inspired by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The sessions were set up at the Princes Theatre by Tendring
District Council (TDC) in association with locally-based dance
professionals Sophie Gregory and Rowena Sargent.
Funding was provided by Tendring Children and Young People's
Strategic Partnership.
Dans Athletic gives the children the opportunity to learn and
demonstrate how dance and sport can come together to create a fun
and accessible approach to dance and physical expression.
Stephen Mayzes, TDC's Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "We are
delighted to have young people from around the District taking part
in this exciting event as it gives them an educational and physical
activity during their half term break.
"Through dance and creativity the young people have been able to
explore issues surrounding the Games in relation to the media,
music, performance and presentation."
The aim is also to build interest and enthusiasm for the Olympic
and Paralympics Games in the lead up to 2012.
