A flagship conference aimed at strengthening the position
of voluntary organisations is heading for Clacton.
The event is being staged in the town on July 1, 2009, and will
include a range of speakers, exhibitors, advice on vital funding
opportunities, workshops and the chance to network with other
groups.
The Thriving Voluntary Sector Conference is being hosted by
Community Voluntary Services Tendring on behalf of the Tendring
Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) at Imperial House, Rosemary
Road.
Local and National funders such as Big Lottery, Colchester
Catalyst and Essex Community Foundation will be offering help on
much-needed cash opportunities.
There will be a chance to meet and speak with the guest
speakers, talk to national organisations and put your questions to
a panel of experts.
Sharon Alexander, Chief Officer of Community Services Tendring,
said it was an opportunity not to be missed for all voluntary
groups and organisations in the District.
"I urge all those involved in the sector to make the time to
come along to the conference - they will not be disappointed," she
said.
"These are very testing times and we all need all the help and
support we can get. This event will offer just that and I hope
people will book their place now."
Workshops will cover issues such as marketing and presentation
skills, how to put together a successful funding bid, recruiting
good trustees, and other useful information.
Neil Stock, Chairman of Tendring LSP, said he hoped voluntary
groups would get along to the conference.
"We are very fortunate that across Tendring there are hundreds
of community and voluntary organisations who are providing valuable
support for local people in many ways," he said.
"This may be helping the elderly with accessing day time
activities and support, providing crisis support for families and
young people, assisting people to develop their skills or gain
educational qualifications.
"They are doing an excellent job for the community and this
conference will provide them with some support and advice."
The event will run from 11am to 5pm on July 1 and Kevin Curley
from the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action
will deliver a keynote speech on "Opportunities and Threats Facing
Local Organisations."
The community centre at Imperial House will be transformed into
conference venue with a marquee in the car park with exhibits from
insurance companies, banks, and solicitors.
The event includes lunch and a strawberry tea with a price for
the entire day of £30 per person. If a community or voluntary
organisation does not have paid staff they can attend free of
charge.
