A popular children's play area is set to reopen tomorrow
after a £48,000 revamp.
Tendring District Council (TDC) has spent the money on giving
the site at East Cliff Recreation Ground a complete makeover - and
it has taken advice from those who will be using it.
Youngsters from nearby Holland Park Primary School have been
involved in the choice of the equipment and coming up with what was
needed.
All the old equipment has been removed along with the old safety
surface. It has been replaced with new equipment and wet pour
safety surfacing.
Pierre Oxley, Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services at TDC, said
the scheme was all part of a larger investment programme.
"The cash pumped into the East Cliff site is one of three
similar projects across the Tendring District which will total
£140,000 in all," he said.
"This year will see the largest investment in our play areas for
more than 16 years."
Cllr Oxley said that £47,000 is also being spent at Cliff Park,
Dovercourt, and £45,000 at Jubilee, Walton.
Both those two schemes are due to get under way this week and
they should be completed in about four weeks.
"This is fantastic news for children living in these areas and
they will see a substantial improvement in the facilities," added
Cllr Oxley.
"The fact that we have consulted with the youngsters themselves
should mean the design will meet their needs and
desires." |
