Almost 200 war veterans and their guests are expected on
parade for a special event to be staged in their honour.
Tendring District Council (TDC) is organising a tea dance at
Clacton Town Hall on June 27, 2009.
It will be the third event of its kind put on for war veterans
from across the District and will tie in with Armed Forces Day,
announced by the Government to build on the success of Veterans
Day.
There is still time for anyone to enlist for the tea dance - but
they need to contact the Council by Friday June 12 to apply for a
ticket.
Anybody living in Tendring who serves or has served in the Armed
Forces is eligible to attend.
TDC Chairman Nick Turner said that there had been an excellent
response from the war veterans.
"So far we have 190 people coming to the tea dance - that's 95
veterans and each with a guest - but we have space for a few more,"
he said.
"It will give them the chance to meet up and socialise at an
event which has been organised to honour their incredible
achievements and efforts on behalf of the country."
The first tea dance run by the Council was in 2005 and was
organised to mark the 60th anniversary of World War II and
attracted 200 people. The second, held in 2007, attracted 180.
Anyone who wants to attend on June 27, and has not already
applied for a ticket, should write to Mrs Janice Stapleton at the
Town Hall, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, CO15 1SE - stating where
they served and when.
