Air Show Organisers Preparing For Lift Off With Additional Attractions

A new aircraft has signed up just as organisers put the final touches to the 17th Clacton Air Show which is expected to be one of the most spectacular yet.

The event will have a whole range of attractions on the ground - as well as in the skies over the town.

With the Red Arrows performing on both days no one should miss out on what is the most breath-taking aerial display - and another aircraft has been added to the programme.

The T-28 Fennec has joined the line-up and promises to be another exciting top attraction.

It is one of only two of the T-28's based in the UK and was the winner of the competition to replace the T-6 Texan as primary trainer in the USAF. Despite its size, it is a sprightly mover and is instantly recognisable by its distinctive engine noise.

The Air Show - which is run by Tendring District Council - will take place on August 21 and 22.

Another aircraft making its debut will be the Typhoon - a unique modern combat plane with a top speed of 910mph.

Always a favourite with the crowds is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which will appear alongside the Tutor, Mustang, Blades, Team Guinot Wingwalkers, the Hawk (208), Tucano and a glider.

With around 100,000 spectators expected over the two days there will be plenty of excitement on offer.

And the excitement will not be restricted to the air with a host of activities to keep all ages entertained on the ground.

The Leisure Arena is being organised by Tendring District Council's Theatre and Entertainments Manager, Lee Pugh.

It will include live music, local dance schools, and a creative arts project.

"It promises to be something a little bit different to what has been on offer in the past and we hope that it will prove very popular," he said.

"The Flight of Fantasy is a brilliant two-day creative workshop for youngsters and will run alongside the Air Show from 10.30am each day."

Working in conjunction with the Council's theatre and entertainments team and The Grand Theatre of Lemmings, children will get the chance to design and build a futuristic aeroplane.

Wicker, bamboo, paper, fabrics and other materials will all be used to construct the aircraft which will then have the body finished off with poems, ideas, wishes, and messages.

The Flight of Fantasy will then be taken across the district to schools and other community organisations before being put on display at the end of its journey.

On top of that the Council has secured the Kiss FM interactive dome. It will feature a Playstation, Wii and DJ mixing school that will be manned by the Kiss Street Team.

These are just two new attractions and many of the other popular stalls and attractions will be there again this time around.

Dedicated parking areas are being arranged so that the whole event runs as smoothly as possible.
