Its aims were to:
• Make councils more relevant and useful to young people
• Make Local Democracy week bigger and better than before
• Increase councillor involvement in citizenship teaching in schools
• Get councils to devolve power, wherever appropriate, to local people.

Councillors were encouraged to attend a school in their ward during Local Democracy Week to answer questions posed by young people and explain the role of Councillors and the importance of democracy. Councillors were invited to contact the local school in their area to arrange a time during Local Democracy Week to take part.

As part of Local Democracy Week a Formal Cabinet Meeting took place in the Stourdale Centre, Manningtree School.
