Tendring is Open for Business and Ready to Learn from the Very Best

Mary Portas

Independent retailers in Tendring have the chance to put their name forward in a bid to work with the Queen of Shops, Mary Portas - and send out a strong message that the District is open for business.

Mary is returning with a new series on Channel 4 and is searching for businesses interested in featuring in the programme.

She is looking for anyone running an independent shop that is struggling to survive or expand and would like to take part.

Optimum TV, which makes the series for Channel 4, is keen to hear from all types of retailers, from local DIY stores to bridal shops, bakeries to bookshops, car dealerships to newsagents.

As part of the programme the successful applicant will receive advice and guidance from the UK's leading industry expert.

Sarah Candy, Tendring District Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said it is an opportunity for a local retailer to step forward and put the message out there that Tendring really is open for business.

"There is no doubt that trading conditions are very challenging and this is an opportunity to learn from the foremost expert in the field," she said.

"I am sure it would be an interesting experience for anyone working with Mary - quite possibly a tough one - but one that could pay dividends for them.

"These types of chances are few and far between and if chosen it would be good for the retailer, and good for Tendring."

TDC's Town Centre Co-ordinator Rachel Fryer is contacting as many independent traders in the District as possible to make them aware of the opportunity.

Business owners who would like to find out more and want to apply to be involved should email maryp@optomen.com or call 02032275896.
