Crews were out as usual this morning (Monday February 6)
collecting refuse and recycling in Tendring.
However, due to the snow and ice there is likely to be
disruption to collections by Veolia Environmental Services today -
and it is expected that some roads will be unsafe to use by their
vehicles.
Drivers of large refuse vehicles are having extreme difficulty
on untreated and minor roads. There will also be delays on roads
travelling to tipping facilities and getting in and out of the
landfill site.
Anyone who does not have their waste and recycling collected by
the end of today should take bags in and put them out again for
their next scheduled collection.
Nick Turner, Tendring District Council's Cabinet Member for the
Environment, said that due to the severe weather conditions it was
inevitable that there would be disruption to the service.
"However, TDC along with our waste contractors, Veolia, will be
doing our best to provide as near normal a service as possible," he
said.
"In these extreme conditions there is no possibility of the
crews managing to get all the way round as they are taking longer
to collect bags.
"They are trying their very best; however, some people will not
receive a collection today due to the weather."
Cllr Turner added that due to the conditions crews have been
advised to only go where it is safe to do so.
TDC staff are also being deployed with barrows and shovels to
clear snow in main town centres across Tendring and litter bin
crews are out working as normal.
All 41 public conveniences across the District are open and all
TDC's leisure facilities are operating as normal apart from outside
artificial pitches.
