When Janice Stapleton started work with Tendring District
Council (TDC) in 1990 it was to take on a temporary
post.
She expected to remain with the local authority for about six
months but retired today - some 21 years later!
Mrs Stapleton, who lives in Walton, began her career at TDC as
Secretary to the then Deputy Director of Environmental Services but
within three years moved on to become Secretary to the Chairman of
the Council.
The job title later changed to Civic Officer, and Janice has
worked alongside 18 different Chairmen - 13 of whom turned up to
honour her at her leaving presentation in the Chairman's
Parlour.
They included present Chairman Alan Goggin, who was also
Chairman in 2010/11.
Cllr Goggin described Mrs Stapleton as the "face of TDC" for so
many groups and organisations.
"She is the one they speak to on so many occasions - she
organises all the functions and does such a fantastic job," he
said. "We have a lot to thank her for."
Former Council Chairman John White added: "This may be a happy
day for Janice but it is a sad day for the people of Tendring who
have looked to her as being the representative of the Chairman.
"We undoubtedly owe a great debt of gratitude to Janice."
Sarah Creelman has taken over the post of Civic
Officer. |
