Look Out for Your Black Bag Delivery!

Cllr Nick Turner

Almost 4 million black bags for domestic waste will be delivered to homes across Tendring in the New Year - along with a leaflet about a new look service!

Residents are being asked to keep an eye out for their supply as deliveries are made to more than 60,000 households beginning on January 9, 2012, depending on the weather.

The goal is to have the total run completed by the end of March 2012.

Tendring District Council's (TDC) waste contractors Veolia Environmental Services will have a dedicated crew and a supervisor on the job - doing their utmost to ensure the no one misses out.

A TDC Officer will also be out and about to carry out checks on properties over the three month period.

Nick Turner, TDC's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said that black sacks are an important part of the service provided to residents and this time will include the leaflet about TDC's new "more for less" service which will be introduced within months.

"We have come up with a much improved service, with significant savings which also encourages people to be more environmentally-friendly," he said.

"It totally fits in with our ambition to deliver more for less resulting in affordable excellent services across the entire District wherever possible and maintain frontline services."

Residents will receive:

 A continuation of a weekly waste collection in black bags
 A continuation of the same standard of street cleaning
 A new District-wide weekly food waste collection
 A weekly collection for various recyclables (paper/card one week and then tin/plastic bottles the next).

Cllr Turner added: "Homes which receive a kerbside collection of waste will be continuing to get their 52 black bags and leaflets between January 9 and the end of March - but you need to let us know if you think you have been missed out."

Should anyone believe they have not received their bags, they should contact Veolia on 01255 431620 within ten days of the date they should have been delivered.

The delivery dates for each particular round - with named streets - will be available on the Council's website, www.tendringdc.gov.uk and will be regularly updated so that residents can keep track of delivery progress from January 9.

Each householder is also being asked to remember to put the bags of waste out before 7am on the day of collection.

"We would ask all residents not to put their waste out ahead of the collection day as it can cause significant problems - and can lead to a fixed penalty notice if you are found doing so," added Cllr Turner.

The new service will be introduced after April and in the meantime residents are urged to continue to present all their paper, card, cans and plastic bottles in their green box each week.
