Frinton's seafront toilets are flushed with success having
been praised as "super loos" by visitors to the town who gave them
top marks.
Both visitors felt they were among the best public conveniences
they had ever used, praised their cleanliness and the friendliness
of the attendants.
Jacqui Coe, of Hullbridge, Essex, wrote to Tendring District
Council (TDC), and said that the facility was worth far more than
the 20p she paid over the New Year break.
"The male attendant was cheerful, courteous and obviously
conscientious in keeping a very high standard of cleanliness," she
said.
"At a time when councils are having to make cutbacks it's
refreshing to find one that appears to have got their priorities
right and I hope that other councils will take note and follow
their shining example."
Mrs Coe added that they were "super loos and a delight to
behold."
She also sent TDC a letter from the Evening Echo after reader
Trevor Murdin of Flemming Crescent, Leigh, Essex, had written to
the paper.
"The best loos, I reckon, are on the cliff top at Frinton, "he
wrote. "They are the business and although it's 20p to enter, this
attended facility is always as clean and fragrant and as well-lit
as can be.
"The attendants are charming and chatty and the last time I paid
a visit they actually played classical music."
Nick Turner, TDC's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said it
is great to hear from happy, contented customers.
"At this difficult financial time TDC is aiming to provide
excellent front line services across the District," he said.
"It certainly appears we have achieved it as far as these two
visitors are concerned and it is a credit to the staff involved
with the facility."
