Clacton's first Pop-up Shop trader Aimee Dawson is looking
forward to a busy Christmas period as she moves well into her
second month in business.
The 21-year-old, who lives in the town, opened up in Chameleon
in Jackson Road selling refurbished furniture which she restores
herself.
Aimee also sells home-crafted cushions, candles, canvas bags,
gifts and a range of vintage Christmas decorations.
She is planning to boost trade with special festive offers in
the run-up to Christmas. From today she is offering certain items
of stock up to 50 per cent off for last minute Christmas
presents.
While she hopes for a busy period, Tendring District Council
(TDC) - which operates the Pop-Up Shop - is already looking for a
successor.
Aimee will continue at Chameleon until January 27, trading rent
and rates free for three months.
Then a new licensee will take over and the deadline for
applications is January 13 for those interested in taking the
reigns in February.
Sarah Candy, TDC's Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said she is
looking forward to seeing who puts their name forward next
time.
"We were very impressed with Aimee and her business when we
officially opened in November and I hope she thrives in the shop,"
she said.
"Now we are searching for the next person to take on the licence
and continue to put an otherwise empty town centre premises back
into good use.
"The overall aim is that our licensees will go on to open up
their own shop in the District after their experience in
Chameleon."
Licensees will receive support and advice from TDC's Town Centre
Co-ordinator Rachel Fryer and the federation of Small
Businesses.
The scheme has attracted a great deal of interest nationally
with other Councils asking for advice on how to set up similar
schemes.
The Pop-Up Shop in Clacton is a direct result of on the ground
regeneration activity funded by TDC.
Those interested in becoming a licensee should email
rfryer@tendringdc.gov.uk
or call on 01255 686149 before January 13 and an application form
will be sent out to them.
