The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) was passed by
Government to encourage free and open access to information held by
Public Authorities across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The
Act allows access for any person or organisation world-wide and
there is no need for an applicant to state their reason for wanting
the information.
There are two main parts to the Act
- The requirement for the Authority to develop and maintain a
Publication Scheme
- The requirement for the authority to respond to any written
request for information, according to strict Government
Guidelines.
TENDRING DISTRICT COUNCIL'S PUBLICATION
SCHEME
Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) it is a requirement
for every public authority to adopt and maintain a publication
scheme setting out what information we will routinely publish, the
manner in which we publish it and whether a charge will be made for
the information.
The purpose of the scheme is to ensure a significant amount of
information is available without the need to make a specific
request for it.

An FOI request needs to be submitted in writing and must give
the name of the applicant, an address for reply (postal or email)
and include as specific a description as possible of the
information required.
Each Service of the Council has its own FOI Co-ordinator who is
responsible for dealing with FOI requests received by their
Service. If you know the appropriate Service to which your request
should be directed, please click on the link below for the correct
contact details.
