CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL 2010 - 2011 and 2011 -
2012

Brightlingsea businessman Alan Goggin was re-elected as Chairman
of Tendring District Council at the Annual Council meeting on 17th
May 2011.
Cllr Goggin became the first Councillor since the mid 1970s to
hold the post for two consecutive years.
Cllr Goggin is greatly honoured to have been chosen for a second
term.
"Being Chairman is a fantastic opportunity that not many
Councillors get even once and I am very grateful and flattered to
be elected for another year," he said.
"I have been made very welcome everywhere I have been
representing TDC during the year and have met some extremely nice
people. I look forward to meeting up with them again - and to
meeting many more.
"Tendring is a lovely place to live, work and bring up a family
with something for everyone. I will continue to promote the
District wherever I can over the coming 12 months."
Cllr Goggin has lived in the Tendring District for 41 years and
is an independent financial advisor with solicitors Birkett Long
having previously owned three companies of his own.
He first became a Tendring District Councillor in 2007 and has
been a Brightlingsea Town Councillor for five years, holding the
post of Chairman and Mayor in 2007.
Cllr Goggin has been heavily involved in Brightlingsea life over
four decades - including many charitable and sporting
organisations.
He has held the position of Mayor Deputy of the Cinque Port
Liberty of Brightlingsea and has been a Freeman from 1977.
Cllr Goggin is well-known in sporting circles both locally and
much further afield. He is a former British and European individual
and team water ski champion and represented Great Britain in the
World Championships. He was also President of the British Water Ski
Federation for 12 years.
He played football for Brightlingsea FC and went on to be the
club's President before switching to the oval ball and joining
Brightlingsea Rugby Club, where he still turns out and is currently
President.
Cllr Goggin has been married to his wife, Mary, for 40 years and
has two sons, Benjamin and Luke, themselves keen and talented
sportsmen.
