A Month in the Life of the Chairman 2007/08

This is my last entry as my time as Chairman came to an end in May. It has been great to let you know about all the interesting people and places that I have been privileged to meet and visit during my time as Chairman of the Council 2007/08.

Here are a selection of some of the things I've been up to in April and May.

I finished my time as Chairman with a real variety of events. You'll be pleased to see me getting my hands dirty putting up a fence beside a footpath in Little Clacton to help stop dogs barking:

In keeping with my theme of "Regeneration" I was delighted to attend the opening of the Brunel business centre on Gorse Lane Industrial Estate:

Colbayns school also opened their new television studio. I went along to see the children making good use of the new equipment:

I also welcomed children from much further afield - from our twin town Biberach in Germany. Closer to home it was also a pleasure to be invited by the Mayor of Colchester to another partnership event. This was for the Colchester and Tendring Community Trust which raises funds for small voluntary groups in Colchester and Tendring:

During April it was, of course, St George's day. Tendring District Scouts held their service at St Paul's church after their parade past the Town Hall:

So as my time as Chairman came to an end I held a Celebration Ball to raise funds for my chosen charities and thank those who have helped me over the past year. Other Chairmen in Essex were doing the same - it was nice to get together with them all to remember what has been a very interesting and special year:

I've only been able to give you a small taster of all the wonderful events I've attended and interesting people I have met. I hope you have enjoyed seeing the pictures as much as I've enjoyed my time as Chairman.

With best wishes ........... Councillor Peter Balbirnie
