What
is it?
Help towards your Council Tax.
You do not have to get any other benefits.
It does not matter if you already get a discount on your Council
Tax, for example if you live alone.
Can I get it?
Are you on a low income and pay Council Tax. If yes to both
questions claim Council Tax Benefit.
Second Adult Rebate
If your own income or savings are too high, you may still be
able to claim Council tax Benefit of up to 25% of your Council Tax
liabilities if you are the only person able to pay the bill and
there are other adults living with you who are on a low income or
in receipt of Income Support. You will not be able to claim if
these other people are :
- A partner
- Joint owner
- Joint tenant
- Someone who pays rent to you
If this applies to you, you will need to complete form 02(AR) in
addition to the benefit claim form,
you can download form 02(AR) here
Amount of Benefit Payable
The amount of
benefit you receive will depend on your personal circumstances,
such as :
• The level of your income and savings
• The amount that the government says that you need to live
on
• Whether you have any other adults living with you
• The amount of your Council Tax (where you are the person liable
to pay)
