Our Mission
To promote a healthy and safe environment for all who live, work
or visit
the Tendring area.
Environmental Services is made up of four
sections:
with responsibilities as follows:
Food and Health and Safety
The Food and Health and Safety team are
responsible for the inspection of commercial premises with regard
to the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and the Health and
Safety at Work etc Act 1974 in accordance with guidance that is
issued by respective national agencies. Local authorities are
required to take action in accordance with the legislation when
contraventions are found.
The team also undertake:
- The licensing of a comprehensive range of
premises with respect to animal welfare (pet shops, animal boarding
and breeding establishments and zoos), infection control
(tattooists and body piercing) and living conditions (caravan
sites)
- The investigation of food complaints arising
both within and well as external to the district.
- The tracing of causation of outbreaks of
infectious disease especially those related to food
poisoning.
- The enforcement of Smokefree
legislation.
In addition the section is also responsible for
health promotion primarily through the food and health and safety
enforcement role.
Pollution and Environment
The Pollution team investigate complaints from
the public concerning commercial, industrial and domestic pollution
problems and public health nuisances including:
- Bonfires
- Drainage
- Light Nuisance
- Noise
- Rubbish Accumulations
- Smells
They are also involved with air quality; contaminated land;
welfare funerals and the testing of private water supplies e.g.
boreholes and wells.
Residential Health
The Residential Health team are responsible
for:
- the inspection, licensing and enforcement of
legislation relating to Houses in Multiple Occupation
(HMO's);
- housing disrepair and unfitness;
- tenant's complaints regarding lack of amenities,
overcrowding, harassment and illegal eviction;
- closing and demolition orders;
- the administration of mandatory Disabled
Facilities Grants and Financial Assistance for Private Sector
Housing and the Council's Affordable Warmth Strategy;
- undertaking waiting list points assessments for
Council Housing applicants; and
- liaising with Essex County Council over
unauthorised gypsy encampments and gypsy issues.
Waste Management
The Waste
Management team are responsible for your rubbish and recycling
collections; street sweeping and beach cleaning; recycling and
waste reduction initiatives and education; the dog warden services;
treatment for rats and mice etc. in domestic properties; the
investigation of abandoned vehicles; and maintaining the districts
public conveniences.
