What is Annual Planning & Performance Management, and why is it important?

Many definitions exist and to some, performance management means collecting information, to others is implies personal appraisal. In simple terms performance management is:

  • Planning and being clear about what you want to achieve or improve
  • Planning and being clear about how you are going to do it
  • Gathering information or evidence as you are progressing to show if you are getting there or if further improvements are required.

Good performance management is fundamental if you want to provide good services. So from Councils who want to serve their communities better, to multi-national companies who want to increase their profits, performance management principles are going to be an essential tool.

Here at Tendring District Council, effective performance management is all about good management and ensuring that individual, team, organisation, community and partnership goals are achieved.
