Residents' associations are formed by groups of people
from a specific geographic community who come together to address
issues within their local area and act as a voice for their local
community.
The majority of associations are structured to include a
Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer and
committee members. These positions are decided by way of
nominations at an Annual Group Meeting during which these positions
can be challenged/altered.
Some associations come together to address one specific issue
while others hope to address a wider spectrum of matters. A few
British residents' associations have registered as locality-based
political parties to enable them to participate in local elections
at county, district, and county council level.
