Community Strategy

"Working in partnership to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Tendring District"

In 2000 all Councils were given the statutory responsibility to prepare a Community Strategy setting out how the social, economic and environmental well-being of the residents of their area could be improved.

In Tendring the statutory, business and community agencies came together to tackle issues such as regeneration, crime and disorder, health and the environment.

The Community Strategy is produced by the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and provides a framework for regeneration and service improvement by setting out their priorities over the next few years:

  • the key issues that the Tendring area is likely to face over the next few years
  • a vision of what the District could look like in 2016
  • how proposals to address these issues can be turned into actions

The Strategy's title is Tendring Together and you can download the full Sustainable Community Strategy for Tendring 2008 - 2016 (adobe pdf document).

We hope that you will spend some time reading through it to understand the vision behind it and learn more of the range of topics that it covers.

The strategy is divided into six themes; each theme is overseen by a multi-agency action team that works to ensure delivery of the agreed actions.

The six themes of the Community Strategy: Health, Crime, Environment, Children & Young People, Economy and Deprivation

You can find out further information on the role and activities of the Tendring LSP here.

Local Area Agreement

Essex also has a Local Strategic Partnership to look at Essex-wide matters. You can find out more about Essex's partnership via the Essex Partnership website.

Local Area Agreements were introduced a number of years ago to deliver better outcomes for local people by joining up work between central government, local government and their partners (the Local Strategic Partnership).

Behind the idea for Local Area Agreements (or LAAs) is the knowledge that 'Places are different' and because they are different they will have local priorities that need local solutions

The Council's role in the Local Area Agreement

We have contributed to the discussions around the LAA priorities both at Essex County and Tendring District level. We see this as an opportunity to develop a sense of shared purpose between all the local partnership groups and work more closely together to make a difference for local people.

We have decided and agreed with our partners, which of the Essex LAA priorities we will play a part in achieving (otherwise known as 'having regard to') as well as helping our partners to achieve the other priorities whenever we can.
