Housing Benefit (HB) is an income-related benefit to help people
on low incomes pay rent on their home.
The Council are unable to help with any mortgage
repayments if you own the property you live in; if you require more
information on this then you should obtain advice from the Benefits
Agency

Housing Benefit is broken down into two
parts:
Rent Allowance - this refers to anyone of
who is eligible to pay rent to a Private Landlord or Registered
Social Landlord (Housing Association).
Rent from a Private
Landlord
Rent Rebate - this refers to anyone of who
is eligible to pay rent to their Local Council (council
tenants)
Rent from the
Council
You do not have to be in receipt
of another state benefit to apply for either or both Housing and
Council Tax Benefit, you can be working and still
qualify
