If the relative from whom you rent the
property from does not live there, you can claim Housing Benefit
provided the tenancy is let on a commercial
basis.
Who is classed as a close relative?
A close relative is either of the
following:
- a parent, step-parent or parent-in-law;
or
- a brother or sister; or
- a son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law,
step-son, step-daughter; or
- the partner of any of the above
*This also includes half-brothers and sisters,
but not step brothers and sisters.
