If you are a student and on a full-time course you may not
be eligible to claim for Housing Benefit, unless you fall into one
of the eligible "student group".
Which students can claim?
You might be able to claim:
- If the claimant is a part-time student
- If the claimant is responsible for a child or young person
(includes if the claimant and partner are both students)
- If the claimant is living alone and a foster parent
- If the claimant is 60 or over or their partner is
- If the claimant is in receipt of Income Support or Jobseeker's
Allowance (Income Based) or Employment Support Allowance
- If the claimant qualifies for a disability premium
- If the claimant has not been able to work for 28 weeks, the
decision of 'incapable for work' is made by Department of Works and
Pension (Jobcentre Plus)
- If the claimant qualifies for a disabled student's allowance as
they are classed as being deaf
- If the claimant is under 19, but not in higher
education
If you and/or your partner are students and are unsure whether
you qualify or who should make a claim you should
contact
us to talk to a benefit assessor.
