Benefits - Guide for Private Rented Properties

Some people may get up to 100% (unless there is a non-dependant deduction taken) of their eligible rent paid, but there are certain rules and statutory regulations that we must use when working out your Benefit.

You can claim this benefit if you pay rent and have less than £16,000 in savings - however - this £16,000 limit will not apply if you are receiving Pension Credit Guaranteed Credit.

Amount of Benefit Payable

The amount of benefit you receive will depend on your personal circumstances, such as:

  • Whether you share the liability with someone other than your partner
  • The amount of your income and savings you have
  • The amount that the government says you need to live on
  • Whether you have any other adults living with you
  • The amount of your Rent (where you are the person liable to pay)
