Why set up a Company?

The Company will be a nimble and responsive organisation - reflecting the regeneration environment in which it is active and capable of rapid decision making. It will be able to respond quickly to partners, including developers, and present a positive, risk-aware face to regeneration in the District.

The Company will be delivery focused with its own staff working on the delivery of projects on the ground. It will have its own expertise and will be able to work effectively in partnership with the Council and complement the skills which already exist within the Council. The Council will be able to take advantage of the skills and status of the Company to achieve its regeneration aspirations.

The Company will be community focused - the structure of the Company, with a number of 'Area Boards' under the stewardship of the Board of Directors, will bring a locality focus to the work of the company in line with the guiding principles of Project Tendring.

The Company will be a Company Limited by Guarantee. This is a well tried and tested route within local government and is seen as the most flexible company structure option which presents the lowest risk and also enables the growth of the company in the future, e.g. the setting up of a community interest company under the umbrella of Tendring Regeneration Ltd. The Company will also be a non-profit distributing organisation (NPDO) which means that although it can make a surplus, this surplus cannot be distributed to the Directors or the Council, rather it must be used to further the objects of the Company, set out above.
