Community development starts from the premise that within any community there is a wealth of knowledge and experience which, if used in creative ways, results in high levels of participation and can be channeled into collective action to achieve the communities' desired goals.

This concept is demonstrated by the number of proactive groups in the area and Teresa works closely with the following groups:

  • Jaywick Community Forum
  • Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower
  • Jaywick Summer Fayre Committee
  • Jaywick Networking Group
  • Frobisher Parents Forum
  • Jaywick Green Team

In addition, Teresa is involved in current initiatives that involve the community such as:

Jaywick Beach Watch - involving a group of volunteers who are to carry out a 'Beach Clean', four times a year. Information gathered from the clean will be sent to the Marine Conservation Society who will use the data to take action to reduce beach litter at source.

Discovering Communities - Exploring Jaywick - working with students of Coastal Academy, with a view to enabling them to learn of the concept of Community and how they may make positive influences in the area in which they live, through interaction with groups and members of the community.

Community Garden - The concept of a Community Growing Area is a fine example of how residents can work together in order to enhance both their environment and their personal wellbeing. A recently formed group are meeting to discuss and apply the proposals for the basis of a new community garden here in Jaywick.

Volunteers are always in demand! If you would like to get involved in your community please contact Teresa on 01255 428090 for further information.
